Archaeomancer
Ghostly Flicker
Peregrine Drake
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Archaeomancer + Ghostly Flicker + Peregrine Drake

Overview
Cast Ghostly Flicker targeting Archaeomancer and Peregrine Drake. When Ghostly Flicker resolves it exiles and then returns those permanents to the battlefield; both creatures enter simultaneously and each’s enter-the-battlefield triggered ability triggers. The creatures’ triggers are put on the stack and you choose their order. Archaeomancer’s triggered ability can target Ghostly Flicker in the graveyard and return it to your hand (Ruling [2018-12-07]). Peregrine Drake’s triggered ability untaps up to five lands; you choose which lands when that trigger resolves and they aren’t targeted (Ruling [2022-12-08]). The basic timing facts follow creature-entering rules and how nonstack abilities and triggered abilities function on the battlefield .
Step 1
You cast Ghostly Flicker targeting Archaeomancer and Peregrine Drake and the spell resolves; as part of its effect it exiles those two permanents and then returns them to the battlefield under your control.
Step 2
Both Archaeomancer and Peregrine Drake enter the battlefield simultaneously as a result of the same effect (see ).
Step 3
Each creature’s enter-the-battlefield triggered ability triggers and is put onto the stack. Because the triggers were created at the same time you (the controller of those triggers) choose the order to put them on the stack.
Step 4
When Archaeomancer’s trigger resolves you return target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand; that trigger can target Ghostly Flicker in your graveyard (Ruling [2018-12-07]) if Ghostly Flicker is in your graveyard at that time.
Step 5
When Peregrine Drake’s trigger resolves you untap up to five lands; you choose which lands to untap as that trigger resolves and those lands are not targeted (Ruling [2022-12-08]).
Step 6
After these triggers resolve, Ghostly Flicker (if returned to your hand) can be cast again, and the lands untapped by Drake can be used to pay its mana cost or to recast creatures—this is the basis for common Flicker/Drake looping lines.
Resolution
When Ghostly Flicker resolves it exiles the chosen permanents and then returns them to the battlefield. The Archaeomancer and Peregrine Drake enter simultaneously (see ). Each’s enter-the-battlefield triggered ability triggers and you put those triggers on the stack in any order you choose. Archaeomancer’s triggered ability may target Ghostly Flicker in your graveyard and return it to your hand (Ruling [2018-12-07]). Peregrine Drake’s triggered ability untaps up to five lands; you choose which lands to untap when that trigger resolves and they aren’t targeted (Ruling [2022-12-08]).
