AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Chatterfang, Squirrel General + Nadier's Nightblade + Warren Soultrader

Overview
When you activate Warren Soultrader by paying 1 life and sacrificing another creature, the sacrifice happens as part of the activation’s costs; if the sacrificed permanent is a token, Nadier’s Nightblade will trigger because a token you control left the battlefield . Warren’s ability then goes on the stack and, when it resolves, it creates a Treasure token — Chatterfang’s replacement effect replaces that token’s creation with that Treasure plus an additional 1/1 Squirrel token (Chatterfang applies to Treasures and to tokens created under your control) [Ruling 2021-06-18] [Ruling 2025-01-24]. The token that was sacrificed already triggered Nadier when it left; newly created tokens won’t be sacrificed as part of that same activation (costs were already paid) but will trigger Nadier if they later leave the battlefield .
Step 1
Declare activation of Warren Soultrader’s ability. As part of paying the activation’s costs you pay 1 life and sacrifice another creature. Sacrificing a token as that cost makes that token leave the battlefield now.
Step 2
When that token leaves the battlefield, Nadier’s Nightblade sees a token you control leave and triggers. Because tokens change zones before they cease to exist, applicable triggered abilities (like Nadier’s) will trigger even though the token will soon cease to exist .
Step 3
After costs are paid and the activation is complete, the activated ability is on the stack. The Nadier trigger is also placed on the stack after state-based actions and triggered-ability checks as normal .
Step 4
When Warren Soultrader’s activated ability resolves, it would create a Treasure token under your control. Chatterfang’s replacement effect modifies that creation: instead of only the token(s) the ability would create, you create those token(s) plus that many 1/1 green Squirrel creature tokens instead .
Step 5
Because Chatterfang applies to Treasures and to tokens created under your control, the result is you get the Treasure token and an additional 1/1 Squirrel token (the Chatterfang ruling confirms Chatterfang applies to Treasures and when you don’t control the source creating them) [Ruling 2021-06-18] [Ruling 2025-01-24].
Step 6
The token that was sacrificed as the cost already triggered Nadier when it left; the Treasure and Squirrel tokens newly created aren’t part of that already-paid cost and therefore aren’t automatically sacrificed as part of this activation. If you later sacrifice any of those newly created tokens, Nadier will trigger again for each token that leaves the battlefield then .
Resolution
If you sacrifice a token to pay Warren Soultrader’s sacrifice cost, Nadier’s Nightblade will trigger for that token leaving the battlefield (the trigger is created before the token ceases to exist) . Warren’s ability then resolves and, because of Chatterfang’s replacement effect, you get the Treasure token plus a 1/1 Squirrel token instead of only the Treasure; Chatterfang applies to Treasure tokens created under your control even if you didn’t control the effect that created them [Ruling 2021-06-18] [Ruling 2025-01-24]. Any tokens created this way aren’t sacrificed as part of the already-paid cost, but if they later leave the battlefield they will each cause Nadier to trigger when they do .
