Chatterfang, Squirrel General
Warren Soultrader
Zulaport Cutthroat
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Chatterfang, Squirrel General + Warren Soultrader + Zulaport Cutthroat

Overview
When you activate Warren Soultrader’s ability and sacrifice a creature you control, that sacrificed creature “dies” and Zulaport Cutthroat’s triggered ability triggers; that trigger is placed on the stack after state-based actions are checked, so it will be on the stack above the Soultrader ability and therefore will resolve before the Treasure is actually created. When the Soultrader ability resolves it would create a Treasure token; Chatterfang’s replacement effect causes that token creation to create that Treasure token plus a 1/1 green Squirrel token under your control instead , and Chatterfang applies to Treasure tokens specifically (and to tokens created under your control even if created by another object) (Ruling [2021-06-18]; Ruling [2025-01-24]). Zulaport Cutthroat’s death trigger(s) from the sacrificed creature(s) will cause each opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life when that triggered ability resolves (Ruling [2021-03-19]; see triggered-ability timing ).
Step 1
You activate Warren Soultrader’s ability: pay 1 life and sacrifice another creature as part of the activation costs.
Step 2
The sacrificed creature is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, which is a 'dies' event and causes Zulaport Cutthroat’s triggered ability to trigger .
Step 3
After costs are paid the activated ability is put on the stack; state-based actions are checked and then triggered abilities (including Cutthroat’s) are placed on the stack .
Step 4
Because triggers are placed on the stack after the activation is on the stack, Cutthroat’s triggered ability will be on top of the stack and will resolve before Soultrader’s activated ability resolves .
Step 5
When the triggered ability resolves it causes each opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life (Cutthroat’s triggered effect) (Ruling [2021-03-19]).
Step 6
Later, when Soultrader’s activated ability resolves it would create a Treasure token. Chatterfang’s replacement effect applies to token creation under your control, so the single Treasure token creation is replaced by creating that Treasure token plus one 1/1 green Squirrel token under your control (Ruling [2021-06-18]; Ruling [2025-01-24]; token basics ).
Step 7
The Treasure token and the 1/1 Squirrel token enter the battlefield under your control as defined tokens .
Resolution
If you activate Warren Soultrader’s ability and sacrifice a creature you control while you control Chatterfang and Zulaport Cutthroat: the sacrificed creature dies and Cutthroat’s triggered ability triggers (and is put on the stack after state-based actions) ; that trigger will resolve before Soultrader’s ability resolves. When Soultrader’s ability resolves it creates a Treasure token, but Chatterfang’s replacement effect makes the creation produce that Treasure plus a 1/1 green Squirrel token instead (Ruling [2021-06-18]; Ruling [2025-01-24]; token basics ). The end result (assuming no other interaction) is you get the Treasure and a 1/1 Squirrel token, and Cutthroat’s trigger causes each opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life when its trigger resolves (Ruling [2021-03-19]).
