The Battlefield

Dockside Extortionist
Temur Sabertooth
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Dockside Extortionist + Temur Sabertooth

Overview
When Dockside Extortionist enters the battlefield its triggered ability goes on the stack to create X Treasure tokens (X = number of artifacts and enchantments your opponents control). You can activate Temur Sabertooth’s ability (which can return another creature you control and doesn’t target; you choose whether and which creature to return as the activated ability resolves) in response to or after that trigger goes on the stack [Ruling 2014-11-24]. If you return Dockside to your hand in response to its trigger, the trigger still resolves later and will create Treasures based on opponents’ permanents at that time; returning Dockside does not by itself remove or change that trigger . If an opponent’s permanent is both an artifact and an enchantment, it’s counted only once for Dockside’s ability [Ruling 2025-10-02].
Step 1
Dockside Extortionist enters the battlefield; its triggered ability is created and will be put on the stack after state-based actions are checked and a player would get priority .
Step 2
Before that triggered ability resolves you may activate Temur Sabertooth’s {1}{G} ability. The ability doesn’t target; you will choose whether to return a creature and which creature to return as Temur’s activated ability resolves [Ruling 2014-11-24].
Step 3
If you let Temur’s ability resolve and choose to return Dockside to your hand, Dockside moves to your hand. Temur gains indestructible until end of turn if you returned a creature; that “until end of turn” duration ends during the cleanup step .
Step 4
Later the Dockside trigger resolves. It creates X Treasure tokens where X equals the number of artifacts and enchantments your opponents control at the time the trigger resolves; Dockside being in your hand instead of on the battlefield does not by itself remove or nullify the trigger .
Step 5
If you’d returned Dockside to your hand and then re-cast it later, a new enter-the-battlefield event would occur and a new triggered ability would be generated and put on the stack after state-based actions are checked .
Resolution
Dockside’s enter-the-battlefield triggered ability is independent of whether Dockside remains on the battlefield when the trigger resolves, so using Temur Sabertooth to return Dockside to your hand in response to Dockside’s trigger does not by itself prevent the trigger from creating Treasure tokens (the number of tokens is determined by the number of artifacts and enchantments your opponents control when the trigger resolves) [Ruling 2014-11-24] [Ruling 2025-10-02].
