Field of the Dead + Kodama of the East Tree + Simic Growth Chamber
Overview
When you play Simic Growth Chamber while you control Kodama of the East Tree and Field of the Dead, three triggered abilities will result: Field of the Dead’s land-entry trigger, Kodama’s “another permanent entered” trigger, and Simic Growth Chamber’s own ETB trigger. The controller orders those triggered abilities on the stack; they resolve one at a time and each token-creation check for Field of the Dead’s condition is done when that Field trigger resolves (Field of the Dead counts itself and the entering land when doing that check) Ruling [2019-07-12].
Step 1
Simic Growth Chamber is put onto the battlefield tapped (it enters the battlefield).
Step 2
Three triggered abilities trigger as a result: Field of the Dead’s land-entered trigger for that land entering, Kodama of the East Tree’s "Whenever another permanent you control enters" trigger for that land entering (Simic wasn’t put onto the battlefield by Kodama’s ability, so Kodama’s trigger will trigger), and Simic Growth Chamber’s own ETB trigger ("when this land enters, return a land you control to its owner's hand"). These triggered abilities are waiting to be put on the stack; once the game reaches the point of putting triggers on the stack you (the controller) order them and put them on the stack .
Step 3
You choose the order for those triggers on the stack. Whichever trigger you put on top will resolve first (stack resolves last-in, first-out) .
Step 4
If you place and resolve Kodama’s trigger before Simic’s ETB, Kodama allows you to put a permanent card from your hand with mana value equal to or less than the entering permanent’s mana value onto the battlefield (Simic’s mana value is 0, so only mana-value-0 cards — typically lands — are eligible). The permanent you put onto the battlefield with Kodama’s ability enters the battlefield and itself causes Field of the Dead to trigger again for that new land entering Ruling [2019-07-12].
Step 5
Any Field of the Dead trigger, when it resolves, checks whether you control seven or more lands with different names at that moment; Field counts itself and the land that caused the trigger when doing that check Ruling [2019-07-12]. If the condition is true when that Field trigger resolves, it creates a 2/2 black Zombie token.
Step 6
When Simic Growth Chamber’s own ETB trigger resolves, you return a land you control to its owner's hand. You may choose any legal land, including the land Kodama just put onto the battlefield. Returning a land to your hand can reduce your land-count and may affect later-resolving Field triggers’ checks for seven or more lands with different names.
Step 7
If Simic’s ETB returns Simic itself (possible only in the special case described in Ruling [2013-04-15] if it entered and you control no other lands), then Simic leaves the battlefield and any triggers that referenced it are unaffected after they were placed on the stack; Field checks when its trigger resolves, based on the game state at that time Ruling [2013-04-15] .
Resolution
Sequence on the stack: when Simic Growth Chamber enters, Field of the Dead triggers for that land entering, Kodama of the East Tree triggers for that land entering (its trigger’s effect is optional and gated by its own "if" clause in the oracle text), and Simic Growth Chamber’s ETB trigger to return a land to its owner’s hand triggers. You (the controller of those triggers) choose the order to put those triggers on the stack, and they resolve in last-in, first-out order . If you resolve Kodama’s trigger while resolving these, Kodama can put a permanent card from your hand onto the battlefield only if its mana value is equal to or less than the entering permanent’s mana value (Simic has mana value 0, so Kodama can only put a land of mana value 0). Any land Kodama puts onto the battlefield will itself cause Field of the Dead to trigger; Field’s token-creation ability checks whether you control seven or more lands with different names when that Field trigger resolves and counts itself and the land that caused the trigger when doing that check Ruling [2019-07-12]. Simic’s ETB, when it later resolves, can return any land you control to your hand (including the land Kodama put onto the battlefield, if legal). If Simic’s ETB ends up leaving you with no other lands when it resolves, it may force returning itself to your hand as described in Ruling [2013-04-15].
