Overview

If The Masamune is equipped to Vincent Valentine, each time a creature an opponent controls dies Vincent’s “Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies” ability will trigger an additional time (so two triggers per dying creature). Each trigger resolves separately and uses the dying creature’s last-known power to determine how many +1/+1 counters to put on Vincent Valentine [Ruling 2025-06-06] . If Galian Beast (the back face) is the thing that died, The Masamune can also cause its own “When Galian Beast dies, return it to the battlefield tapped (front face up)” ability to trigger an additional time; however, only the first of those return triggers that resolves can actually return the card from the graveyard to the battlefield [Ruling 2025-06-06] .

Step 1

A creature an opponent controls dies (is destroyed or put into a graveyard), creating the trigger event for Vincent Valentine’s ability “Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies...” .

Step 2

Because The Masamune is granting the equipped creature the ability “If a creature dying causes a triggered ability of this creature ... to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time,” Vincent’s single trigger is duplicated and two separate triggered abilities are created and placed waiting to be put on the stack [Ruling 2025-06-06].

Step 3

After state-based actions are performed and triggered abilities are put on the stack, the two triggered abilities are placed on the stack (they are independent triggers) and players get priority to respond before they resolve .

Step 4

When each trigger resolves, it looks to the dying creature’s last-known information on the battlefield to determine its power, and then puts that many +1/+1 counters on Vincent Valentine for that trigger [Ruling 2025-06-06].

Step 5

If Vincent/Galian Beast itself died while equipped with The Masamune, the creature’s own death-trigger is likewise duplicated; resolving the first return trigger will return the card from the graveyard to the battlefield tapped front face up, and any later duplicate return triggers will do nothing because the card is no longer in the graveyard [Ruling 2025-06-06] .

Resolution

With The Masamune equipped to Vincent Valentine: whenever an opponent’s creature dies, Vincent’s death-trigger will trigger twice (two separate triggers go on the stack). Each trigger, when it resolves, puts +1/+1 counters equal to that creature’s power as it last existed on the battlefield [Ruling 2025-06-06] . If Galian Beast itself dies while equipped with The Masamune, its death trigger will likewise trigger an additional time; the multiple “return it to the battlefield” triggers are independent, but once the first resolves and returns the card to the battlefield, subsequent return triggers will do nothing because the card is no longer in the graveyard [Ruling 2025-06-06] .
