Vraska, Betrayal's Sting
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider + Vraska, Betrayal's Sting

Overview
Vorinclex’s static text changes the number of counters that are actually put on permanents or players. When you control both Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider and Vraska, Betrayal's Sting, any counters Vraska’s abilities would put are doubled; if an opponent controls Vorinclex, counters you would put are halved (rounded down). This affects both Vraska’s 0 ability (proliferate adds counters) and her −9 (which puts a number of poison counters) because those effects “put” counters .
Step 1
Activate Vraska’s ability and let it resolve. The ability’s effect will instruct the game to put counters (either by Proliferate adding counters or by the −9 text putting a specific number of poison counters). See that counters are the game objects being added .
Step 2
When the game would put one or more counters on a permanent or player, Vorinclex’s text replaces that event and modifies the number to be put depending on controller relationships: If the person attempting to put the counters is the controller of Vorinclex, put twice that many counters instead; if the person attempting to put the counters is an opponent of Vorinclex’s controller, put half that many instead, rounded down.
Step 3
Apply Vorinclex’s replacement effect to each separate object or player that would receive counters. For proliferate, each chosen permanent/player is handled as its own event of putting counters and is modified individually by Vorinclex.
Step 4
If the halved result is zero (for example, proliferate would add 1 counter but an opponent’s Vorinclex halves it to 0), no counters are put on that object or player.
Step 5
If more than one effect attempts to modify how many counters would be put (for example Vorinclex and another counter-modifying effect), the controller chooses the order to apply those effects when the counters are being put, per Ruling [2021-02-05].
Step 6
After the final number of counters to be placed is determined and placed, check state-based actions. If a player has ten or more poison counters as a result, that player loses the game as a state-based action .
Resolution
If the controller of Vraska is also the controller of Vorinclex, any time Vraska’s ability would put counters on permanents or players those counters are doubled by Vorinclex’s replacement effect. If an opponent controls Vorinclex, the number of counters you would put is halved, rounded down, by Vorinclex’s other replacement effect. If the halved result is zero (for example, proliferate would add 1 counter but it’s halved to 0), no counters are put. If multiple effects try to modify how many counters would be put, the controller choosing the order to apply those effects follows the ruling about applying multiple modifiers to counters [Ruling 2021-02-05]. If poison counters brought a player to ten or more, they lose the game as a state-based action .
