Overview

All Will Be One triggers whenever you put one or more counters on a permanent or player and deals damage equal to the number of counters to a chosen legal target [Ruling 2023-02-04]. Damage dealt to a player causes that player to lose that much life . Ob Nixilis’s last ability checks whether one or more opponents each lost exactly 1 life and will trigger if (and only if) the relevant life-loss event(s) cause each opponent to lose exactly 1 life [Ruling 2023-05-12] .

Step 1

You put one or more counters on a permanent or player; All Will Be One’s triggered ability sees that and triggers (All Will Be One triggers whenever you put one or more counters on a permanent or player) [Ruling 2023-02-04].

Step 2

That triggered ability goes on the stack. When it resolves, you choose a legal target (an opponent, a creature an opponent controls, or a planeswalker an opponent controls) and All Will Be One deals damage equal to the number of counters put to that chosen target.

Step 3

If the chosen target is a player, damage dealt to that player causes that player to lose that much life .

Step 4

If the amount of life lost by an opponent as the result of that damage is exactly 1, Ob Nixilis’s triggered ability will see that opponent losing exactly 1 life and will trigger (Ob Nixilis triggers when one or more opponents each lose exactly 1 life) [Ruling 2023-05-12] .

Step 5

If the life loss is any amount other than exactly 1, Ob Nixilis does not trigger from that event [Ruling 2023-05-12] .

Step 6

When Ob Nixilis’s ability resolves it puts a +1/+1 counter on Ob Nixilis and exiles the top card of your library, allowing you to play that card until your next end step (per Ob Nixilis’s oracle text).

Resolution

If All Will Be One’s trigger resolves and deals exactly 1 damage to an opponent, that opponent loses exactly 1 life and Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin’s ability will trigger (you put a +1/+1 counter on Ob Nixilis and exile the top card of your library, etc.) [Ruling 2023-02-04] [Ruling 2023-05-12]. If All Will Be One deals any amount of damage other than exactly 1 to an opponent, Ob Nixilis’s ability does not trigger [Ruling 2023-05-12].
