Circle of Dreams Druid
Umbral Mantle
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Circle of Dreams Druid + Umbral Mantle

Overview
Umbral Mantle grants the equipped creature an activated ability that the creature’s controller may activate; when that ability is activated the {Q} (untap) is paid as part of the cost and the untap happens as a cost (and can’t be responded to) [Ruling [2008-05-01]]. After the costs are paid and the ability is on the stack you get priority and may tap Circle of Dreams Druid for mana ({T}: Add {G} for each creature you control), so you can use that mana before the Mantle ability resolves. With enough creatures (Druid producing more than {3}) this can produce net mana each cycle, and can be looped given initial mana to start the first activation.
Step 1
Have Umbral Mantle attached to Circle of Dreams Druid (so the creature has the granted ability). The granted ability text is '{3}, {Q}: This creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn.' (from Umbral Mantle).
Step 2
To activate the granted ability you (the creature’s controller) announce activation and begin paying its costs. As part of paying costs you pay {3} (from your available mana) and you untap the Druid as the {Q} cost; that untap happens during cost payment and can’t be responded to [Ruling [2008-05-01]] .
Step 3
After all costs are paid the Mantle ability is placed on the stack. At that point players receive priority before the ability resolves.
Step 4
While the Mantle ability is on the stack and you have priority, the Druid is now untapped (because you paid the {Q} untap cost). You may activate the Druid’s mana ability ({T}: Add {G} for each creature you control) by tapping it and produce that much green mana.
Step 5
You may use the mana produced in response to the Mantle ability (while it is still on the stack) to pay costs for further actions, including paying {3} to activate the Mantle ability again. When you activate Mantle again you pay {3} (using the mana you just produced) and untap the Druid as the {Q} cost (untap happens during cost payment) [Ruling [2008-05-01]].
Step 6
Repeat the cycle: after each payment of costs the Mantle activation goes on the stack and you can tap the Druid for mana in response. Each full cycle consumes {3} but yields the Druid’s tap value; if that value exceeds {3} you gain net mana and can repeat indefinitely provided initial resources to start the sequence and that the creature remains eligible to be untapped as a cost.
Resolution
You may activate the ability granted by Umbral Mantle on Circle of Dreams Druid; paying that ability’s costs includes untapping the creature as a cost, which happens during cost payment and can’t be responded to [Ruling [2008-05-01]]. After costs are paid and the ability is on the stack you can tap Circle of Dreams Druid to produce green mana and use that mana before the Mantle ability resolves. If the Druid produces more than {3} green (for example, if you control 4 or more creatures) you get a net gain of mana each cycle and can repeat the sequence (using the newly generated mana to pay the next {3}) to generate arbitrarily large amounts of mana, provided you have the initial {3} to begin and the creature remains able to be untapped as a cost each activation [Ruling [2008-05-01]].
