Frantic Search
Underworld Breach
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Dragon's Rage Channeler + Frantic Search + Underworld Breach

Overview
When you cast Frantic Search (whether from your hand or cast from your graveyard using Underworld Breach's escape), Dragon's Rage Channeler will trigger its "Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, surveil 1" ability. If you cast Frantic Search using Underworld Breach's escape, you choose to cast it as an escape spell and pay its escape cost (its mana cost plus exiling three other cards from your graveyard) as part of casting, so those three cards are exiled immediately as you cast it [Ruling 2020-01-24]. Frantic Search then resolves, and you draw two cards, then discard two cards (both draw and discard happen while Frantic Search is resolving; nothing can occur between them) and you may untap up to three lands you control as it resolves [Ruling 2018-12-07; Ruling 2022-12-08]. The exiling you did to pay escape happens before the spell is on the stack, so those exiled cards are no longer in your graveyard for any continuous checks (for example Delirium on Dragon's Rage Channeler) or for future escape costs [Ruling 2020-01-24; Ruling 2021-06-18].
Step 1
Decide whether to cast Frantic Search from your hand (normal cast) or from your graveyard using Underworld Breach's escape; if casting via escape, choose that method and pay the escape cost, which includes exiling three other cards from your graveyard as part of casting [Ruling 2020-01-24].
Step 2
Pay all costs for casting Frantic Search (mana plus, if escaping, the exiling of three other cards). The exiled cards leave your graveyard as part of paying the cost [Ruling 2020-01-24]; this immediately changes what is in your graveyard (which can affect Delirium).
Step 3
When the spell is cast, Dragon's Rage Channeler sees that you cast a noncreature spell and its triggered ability (surveil 1) is put on the stack. The surveil trigger will resolve later and looks at the top card of your library and you may put that card into your graveyard (this can further affect graveyard contents and Delirium).
Step 4
Frantic Search and the surveil trigger are on the stack (their relative order depends on timing and priority). When Frantic Search resolves, draw two cards, then discard two cards; nothing can happen between the draw and the discard [Ruling 2018-12-07].
Step 5
Also as Frantic Search resolves, you untap up to three lands and choose which lands to untap [Ruling 2022-12-08].
Step 6
After resolution, any discarded cards are put into the graveyard (which may enable future escape payments or change Delirium status), and the surveil 1 trigger from Dragon's Rage Channeler will resolve when it gets to the top of the stack, allowing you to look at the top card of your library and optionally put it into your graveyard.
Resolution
Casting Frantic Search (including casting it from your graveyard for its escape cost granted by Underworld Breach) is a noncreature spell and will trigger Dragon's Rage Channeler's surveil 1. If you cast Frantic Search via escape, you exile three other cards from your graveyard as part of paying the escape cost when you cast it, so those cards are gone before resolution and can no longer be used for Delirium or as part of later escape payments; when Frantic Search resolves you draw two, then discard two (with no gap between those actions) and then untap up to three lands [Ruling 2020-01-24; Ruling 2018-12-07; Ruling 2022-12-08]. Dragon's Rage Channeler's Delirium is continuously checked and can be lost if the exiling removes card types from your graveyard [Ruling 2021-06-18].
