Exquisite Blood
Vizkopa Guildmage
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Exquisite Blood + Vizkopa Guildmage

Overview
If you have activated Vizkopa Guildmage’s second ability ({1}{W}{B}: Whenever you gain life this turn, each opponent loses that much life.) and Exquisite Blood is on the battlefield, any time an opponent loses life that starts the sequence: opponent loses life → Exquisite Blood triggers → when that trigger resolves you gain that much life → Vizkopa’s delayed triggered ability triggers on that life gain and resolves causing each opponent to lose that much life . That loss then re-triggers Exquisite Blood, producing a repeating loop of triggers until a terminal condition occurs (a player’s life reaches 0 or less, a player can’t gain life, or players make a choice to stop the loop).
Step 1
You activate Vizkopa Guildmage’s second ability; the game records a delayed triggered ability that says “Whenever you gain life this turn, each opponent loses that much life.” This creates a trigger that will watch for life gain .
Step 2
Some source causes an opponent to lose life (for example, a creature with lifelink deals damage to them; lifelink causes life gain to the controller when damage is dealt) .
Step 3
That opponent’s life loss causes Exquisite Blood’s triggered ability to trigger (“Whenever an opponent loses life, you gain that much life.”) and that trigger is put on the stack under your control.
Step 4
When Exquisite Blood’s trigger resolves, you gain life and life totals are adjusted accordingly .
Step 5
Your gaining life causes the delayed triggered ability created by Vizkopa to trigger (it watches for you gaining life this turn) and that trigger is put on the stack .
Step 6
When Vizkopa’s triggered ability resolves, each opponent loses life equal to the life you gained; adjust their life totals accordingly and that life loss in turn creates one Exquisite Blood trigger for each opponent who lost life .
Step 7
Those Exquisite Blood triggers, when they resolve, cause you to gain life again, which retriggers Vizkopa’s delayed ability, and the loop repeats until a terminal condition occurs (a player’s life reaches 0 or less, life gain is prevented, players take other actions, etc.).
Resolution
With Vizkopa’s life-gain triggered ability active and Exquisite Blood on the battlefield, an opponent losing life will cause a repeated sequence of life loss and life gain: each opponent loss causes Exquisite Blood to trigger and, when that trigger resolves, you gain life ; that life gain triggers Vizkopa’s delayed ability which makes opponents lose life , which in turn triggers Exquisite Blood again. This repeat continues until a terminal event occurs (for example, a player’s life total is reduced to 0 or less before Exquisite Blood can resolve in some simultaneous-loss situations per the ruling) or an effect prevents the life gain/loss .
