Glint-Horn Buccaneer
Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Glint-Horn Buccaneer + Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator

Overview
If Glint-Horn Buccaneer (a Pirate) deals damage to your opponent(s) — whether from its discard-triggered ability or from combat damage while attacking — Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator will cause you to create Treasure token(s) equal to the number of opponents who were actually dealt damage. The discard damage is a triggered ability (not an activated ability) [Ruling 2019-07-12]. Combat damage is assigned then dealt simultaneously during the combat damage step [510.1, 510.2].
Step 1
Buccaneer causes damage in one of two ways: its triggered ability ("Whenever you discard a card, this creature deals 1 damage to each opponent") or by assigning and dealing combat damage while attacking [Ruling 2019-07-12] .
Step 2
If the Buccaneer’s discard trigger is created (e.g., you activate its '{1}{R}, Discard a card: Draw a card' while it’s attacking), that triggered ability goes on the stack and, when it resolves, the trigger deals 1 damage to each opponent (this is noncombat damage).
Step 3
If Buccaneer deals combat damage (unblocked or as assigned in combat), that damage is dealt during the combat damage step; multiple attackers deal damage simultaneously .
Step 4
Malcolm’s triggered ability watches for 'Pirates you control deal damage to your opponents.' When damage is actually dealt to opponents by one or more Pirates, Malcolm’s ability triggers and will create one Treasure token for each opponent who was dealt damage in that damage event .
Step 5
If multiple Pirates deal damage simultaneously to multiple opponents, Malcolm’s ability will create one Treasure per opponent who was dealt damage (not one per Pirate per opponent).
Resolution
When Glint-Horn Buccaneer causes damage to your opponents (via its discard-triggered 1 damage to each opponent or by dealing combat damage), Malcolm’s triggered ability will create one Treasure token for each opponent who was dealt damage by your Pirates in that damage event. If multiple Pirates deal damage simultaneously, Malcolm’s ability looks at which opponents were dealt damage and creates one Treasure per opponent dealt damage ; the Buccaneer’s discard effect is a triggered ability, not a free discard [Ruling 2019-07-12].
