AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Etherium Sculptor + Krark-Clan Ironworks + Myr Retriever + Scrap Trawler

Overview
With Etherium Sculptor on the battlefield (reduces artifact spells you cast by {1}) you can use Krark-Clan Ironworks + Myr Retriever + Scrap Trawler to form a loop that nets one {C} (colorless) per full cycle and therefore can be repeated to produce unlimited {C}. Etherium Sculptor's cost reduction affects the total cost you pay while casting a spell but does not change the artifact's mana value used by Scrap Trawler's comparison [Ruling [2008-10-01]].
Step 1
Set up: Etherium Sculptor and Krark-Clan Ironworks are on the battlefield. One of the pair (example: Scrap Trawler) is in your graveyard and the other (Myr Retriever) is on the battlefield. Etherium Sculptor will reduce artifact spells you cast by {1} .
Step 2
Activate Krark-Clan Ironworks' sacrifice activation and sacrifice Myr Retriever. Sacrificing moves Myr Retriever from battlefield to graveyard , and Ironworks adds {C}{C} to your mana pool.
Step 3
Myr Retriever's triggered ability goes on the stack (it triggers when it dies) and can target an artifact card in your graveyard other than itself; choose Scrap Trawler in the graveyard if eligible [Ruling [2020-08-07]].
Step 4
Resolve the triggered ability and return Scrap Trawler from your graveyard to your hand.
Step 5
Cast Scrap Trawler from your hand. Its mana cost is {3} but Etherium Sculptor reduces the total cost by {1}, so its casting cost is {2} now; you pay {C}{C} from the mana Ironworks produced when you sacrificed Myr Retriever . The spell resolves and Scrap Trawler enters the battlefield .
Step 6
Activate Krark-Clan Ironworks and sacrifice Scrap Trawler. Sacrificing moves Scrap Trawler to the graveyard and Ironworks adds {C}{C} to your mana pool.
Step 7
Scrap Trawler's triggered ability for "Whenever this creature dies ... return to your hand target artifact card in your graveyard with lesser mana value" triggers. Use the mana value of the artifact as it last existed on the battlefield to select target; target Myr Retriever in the graveyard (mana value 2 < Scrap Trawler's 3) [Ruling [2017-02-09]].
Step 8
Resolve that triggered ability and return Myr Retriever from the graveyard to your hand.
Step 9
Cast Myr Retriever from your hand, paying its reduced cost: Etherium Sculptor reduces its {2} mana cost by {1}, so it costs {1} to cast; pay {C} from the {C}{C} Ironworks added when you sacrificed Scrap Trawler . This leaves one {C} in your mana pool.
Step 10
You are back to the starting position (Scrap Trawler in graveyard, Myr Retriever on battlefield) but with one extra {C} in your pool. Repeat the sequence to generate more {C} indefinitely.
Resolution
If you have Etherium Sculptor and Krark-Clan Ironworks on the battlefield and start with one of the pair (Scrap Trawler or Myr Retriever) in the graveyard and the other on the battlefield, you can: sacrifice the on-battlefield creature to Krark-Clan Ironworks to get {C}{C} ; use the dying creature's triggered ability or Scrap Trawler's triggered ability (as appropriate) to return the other card to your hand; cast it for its Etherium-reduced cost ; then repeat by sacrificing it to Ironworks. Each full two-sacrifice, two-cast cycle leaves one {C} in your mana pool (so it generates infinite colorless mana if repeated). Etherium Sculptor's reduction does not alter mana values used for Scrap Trawler's comparisons [Ruling [2008-10-01]] and Scrap Trawler's "lesser mana value" comparison uses the artifact's mana value as it last existed on the battlefield [Ruling [2017-02-09]].
