Carrion Feeder
Thran Vigil
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Carrion Feeder + Thran Vigil

Overview
Sacrificing a creature to Carrion Feeder does not cause Thran Vigil to trigger. Thran Vigil triggers when artifact and/or creature cards leave your graveyard; sacrificing moves a creature from the battlefield into your graveyard (it does not leave the graveyard).
Step 1
You activate Carrion Feeder’s activated ability and pay its costs, which include sacrificing a creature you control; the sacrificed creature is moved from the battlefield to your graveyard.
Step 2
Moving a creature from the battlefield to your graveyard is the creature entering the graveyard; it is not an event of a card leaving your graveyard.
Step 3
Thran Vigil triggers only when one or more artifact and/or creature cards leave your graveyard during your turn, so the act of sacrificing a creature to Carrion Feeder does not meet that trigger condition.
Step 4
When Carrion Feeder’s ability resolves, it attempts to put a +1/+1 counter on 'this creature' (the Feeder). If Carrion Feeder is still on the battlefield, it gets the counter; if Carrion Feeder was sacrificed as part of the cost (or otherwise isn’t on the battlefield), the ability won’t be able to put a counter on it.
Resolution
Activating Carrion Feeder’s "Sacrifice a creature" ability and sacrificing a creature will not trigger Thran Vigil. Thran Vigil watches for cards leaving your graveyard during your turn; sacrificing puts a creature into your graveyard (it enters the graveyard), so it does not satisfy Thran Vigil's trigger condition.
