AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Carrion Feeder + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Plague Belcher

Overview
With Mikaeus, the Unhallowed on the battlefield giving your non-Human Zombies undying, activating Carrion Feeder’s “Sacrifice a creature” ability to sacrifice Plague Belcher causes Plague Belcher to die and its undying (granted by Mikaeus) to trigger; that undying trigger will return Plague Belcher to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter before the Carrion Feeder ability’s put-counter effect resolves, and Plague Belcher’s enter-the-battlefield trigger (two -1/-1 counters) will also trigger on its return. See Ruling [2018-12-07] and the triggered-abilities/ SBA timing in .
Step 1
You activate Carrion Feeder’s activated ability and as part of paying its cost you sacrifice Plague Belcher; the sacrifice causes Plague Belcher to die and move to the graveyard.
Step 2
The death of Plague Belcher creates triggered abilities (notably the undying trigger granted by Mikaeus for Plague Belcher); triggered abilities created by the death are put on the stack according to the normal triggered-ability rules ().
Step 3
Those triggered abilities (including Plague Belcher’s undying trigger from Mikaeus) will resolve before Carrion Feeder’s activated ability effect that would put a +1/+1 counter on Carrion Feeder resolves, because the trigger was created by the die event that occurred while paying costs and is placed on the stack above the already-placed activated ability (see and Ruling [2018-12-07]).
Step 4
When the undying trigger resolves it returns Plague Belcher to the battlefield under its owner’s control with a +1/+1 counter (Mikaeus’s undying grants this effect; see Ruling [2018-12-07]).
Step 5
Plague Belcher’s enter-the-battlefield triggered ability (put two -1/-1 counters on target creature you control) is created when it re-enters and is placed on the stack; that ETB trigger will resolve before Carrion Feeder’s still-waiting put-counter effect unless players change the order on the stack.
Step 6
If Plague Belcher’s ETB targets Carrion Feeder and resolves before Carrion Feeder’s own ability resolves, Carrion Feeder will get two -1/-1 counters; if those -1/-1 counters cause Carrion Feeder to be put into its owner’s graveyard (death), Carrieon Feeder’s undying (from Mikaeus) will trigger if it had no +1/+1 counters when it died (Ruling [2018-12-07] and death rules /).
Step 7
Finally, when Carrion Feeder’s activated ability (already on the stack) resolves, it attempts to put a +1/+1 counter on the creature that was the source when the ability was activated; if that original object is no longer on the battlefield (because it died and returned as a new object), the put-counter effect will not affect the new object (the ability refers to the original object).
Resolution
If you activate Carrion Feeder’s activated ability and sacrifice Plague Belcher while Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is giving undying, the sacrifice causes Plague Belcher to die and undying (granted by Mikaeus) to trigger; that undying trigger will be placed on the stack and resolve before the Carrion Feeder activated ability’s effect to put a +1/+1 counter on Carrion Feeder resolves (see and Ruling [2018-12-07]). Plague Belcher will return with a +1/+1 counter and its ETB ability (put two -1/-1 counters on target creature you control) will then trigger. If Plague Belcher’s ETB (or other effects) cause Carrion Feeder to die before Carrion Feeder’s activated ability resolves, Carrion Feeder’s own undying (from Mikaeus) will trigger if it had no +1/+1 counters when it died (Ruling [2018-12-07] and SBA checks in and death rules /). If only Plague Belcher dies (no simultaneous deaths of other Zombies), Plague Belcher’s “Whenever another Zombie you control dies” ability will not trigger for its own death (see Ruling [2017-04-18] for the simultaneous-death case).
