AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Glaring Fleshraker + Mystic Forge + Sensei's Divining Top

Overview
When you use Mystic Forge to cast a colorless (or artifact) spell from the top of your library, that casting is a normal cast for the purposes of triggered abilities (). Glaring Fleshraker’s “Whenever you cast a colorless spell” ability triggers when you cast that spell and is put on the stack above the spell that caused it (Ruling [2024-06-07]), so the spawn-token-producing trigger resolves before the spell does. The spawn tokens are 0/1 colorless creatures and entering the battlefield will trigger Fleshraker’s second ability, dealing 1 damage to each opponent for each such creature. You can use Sensei’s Divining Top to look/reorder or to draw and put itself on top before casting; drawing while a spell is being cast interacts with the draw-while-casting rule () and Top’s abilities may be activated in responses as described in the Top ruling (Ruling [2016-06-08]). Mystic Forge only allows you to cast artifact spells and colorless spells from the top of your library and does not let you “play” lands from the top (Ruling [2019-07-12]).
Step 1
Arrange or look at the top of your library with Sensei's Divining Top ({1}: look at top three and reorder) or use Mystic Forge’s {T}, Pay 1 life to exile the top card until the top is a card you can cast from top (Mystic Forge Oracle Text) before casting.
Step 2
When the top card is an artifact or otherwise a colorless spell you may cast it from the top of your library because of Mystic Forge’s static ability (this is still casting a spell under ).
Step 3
As soon as the spell becomes cast (after you pay costs; see ), Glaring Fleshraker’s 'Whenever you cast a colorless spell' trigger is created and put on the stack; per Ruling [2024-06-07] that trigger is placed above the spell on the stack and will resolve first.
Step 4
Players get priority with both the triggered ability and the spell on the stack; you may activate Top’s abilities in response to the trigger or the spell (Top’s {T} draw-or-put-on-top ability may be activated in these windows as described in Ruling [2016-06-08]).
Step 5
When the Fleshraker trigger resolves it creates the indicated number of 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature tokens with 'Sacrifice this token: Add {C}.' The tokens enter the battlefield before the original spell resolves.
Step 6
Each entering colorless creature causes Fleshraker’s second triggered ability ('Whenever another colorless creature you control enters, this creature deals 1 damage to each opponent') to trigger; those triggers go on the stack and will resolve in last-in/first-out order, dealing damage to each opponent for each entering creature.
Step 7
After those enter-the-battlefield triggers resolve, the original spell remains on the stack and will resolve next (unless it was countered meanwhile). Note: per Ruling [2024-06-07], Fleshraker’s first trigger still resolves even if the spell is later countered or otherwise leaves the stack.
Resolution
If you cast a colorless spell from the top of your library using Mystic Forge, Glaring Fleshraker’s 'Whenever you cast a colorless spell' trigger goes on the stack above that spell and will resolve first (Ruling [2024-06-07]; casting is defined by ). When that trigger resolves it creates the 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn tokens; those tokens entering the battlefield cause Fleshraker’s 'Whenever another colorless creature you control enters' trigger(s) and will deal 1 damage to each opponent for each such entering creature. You may use Sensei’s Divining Top or Mystic Forge’s {T}, Pay 1 life ability to change or remove the top card before casting; if you draw with Top in the window after the spell has been cast but before it resolves, that draw is subject to the draw-while-casting rule () and Top’s activation timing is covered by Ruling [2016-06-08]. Mystic Forge cannot be used to play lands from the top of your library (Ruling [2019-07-12]).
