Aggravated Assault
Bear Umbra
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Aggravated Assault + Bear Umbra

Overview
Aggravated Assault can be used to create an additional combat phase and untap your creatures; if the creature attacking is enchanted with Bear Umbra, Bear Umbra’s triggered ability (“Whenever this creature attacks, untap all lands you control”) will trigger when that creature is declared as an attacker, untapping your lands so you can pay for another activation of Aggravated Assault in the following additional main phase (the aura-granted ability is controlled by the creature’s controller) Ruling [2010-06-15].
Step 1
Have Bear Umbra attached to a creature you control and be in a main phase where you can legally activate Aggravated Assault (Aggravated Assault’s activation is only legal as a sorcery) Ruling [2023-09-01].
Step 2
Activate Aggravated Assault by paying its cost; when the ability resolves it untaps all creatures you control and creates an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase.
Step 3
Proceed to that additional combat phase and follow normal combat steps; when you declare attackers and you declare the Bear Umbra–enchanted creature as an attacker, Bear Umbra’s triggered ability ("Whenever this creature attacks, untap all lands you control") triggers and is put on the stack per normal combat timing .
Step 4
When that Bear Umbra trigger resolves it untaps all lands you control, including lands you can use to pay for further activations of Aggravated Assault Ruling [2010-06-15].
Step 5
After combat, you receive the additional main phase created by Aggravated Assault; with your lands now untapped you may pay Aggravated Assault’s cost again and activate it another time (Ruling [2004-10-04]).
Step 6
Repeat the above sequence as long as you can pay Aggravated Assault’s cost each time; each activation untaps your creatures so the enchanted creature can be declared as an attacker in each new combat.
Resolution
You can chain additional combat phases this way as long as you can pay Aggravated Assault’s activated cost each time: activate Aggravated Assault (a sorcery) in a main phase to untap your creatures and create an additional combat phase; when the Bear Umbra–enchanted creature attacks in that combat, Bear Umbra untaps your lands (Ruling [2010-06-15]); in the additional main phase that follows that combat you may pay for and activate Aggravated Assault again (Ruling [2004-10-04]). The creature’s controller controls the aura-granted attack trigger , and you should follow normal combat timing for declaring attackers and putting triggered abilities on the stack . Ruling [2023-09-01] notes the common practical timing (activating Aggravated Assault in your postcombat main phase so creatures that attacked this turn can be untapped for another combat).
