Aggravated Assault
Selvala, Heart of the Wilds
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Aggravated Assault + Selvala, Heart of the Wilds

Overview
You can cast Aggravated Assault as a sorcery during a main phase; when it resolves it untaps all your creatures and creates an additional combat phase after that main phase . After it resolves you get priority in that same main phase and may activate Selvala’s {G},{T} mana ability (it’s a mana ability that doesn’t use the stack) to add X mana equal to the greatest power among creatures you control, where X is determined when you activate the ability (Ruling [2016-08-23]). Those untapped creatures may be declared as attackers in the additional combat phase because attackers must be untapped and have either haste or have been controlled continuously since the turn began .
Step 1
Go through your first combat phase normally and resolve combat damage as usual (combat steps and timing follow the combat rules) .
Step 2
After combat, during your postcombat main phase you have priority ; cast/activate Aggravated Assault (pay its activation cost) as a sorcery. When it resolves it untaps all creatures you control and creates an additional combat phase after this main phase .
Step 3
With priority still in that same postcombat main phase you may activate Selvala’s {G},{T} ability. Because it is a mana ability it doesn’t go on the stack and resolves immediately, adding X mana equal to the greatest power among creatures you control at the moment of activation (Ruling [2016-08-23]).
Step 4
Use the mana you generated (you may also play a land now if you haven’t already, see special action rules for playing a land during a main phase) .
Step 5
Proceed to the additional combat phase created by Aggravated Assault. Your creatures are untapped (from the Assault resolution) and may be declared as attackers because they are untapped and were continuously controlled this turn .
Resolution
Typical line: attack in the first combat, go to your postcombat main phase and activate Aggravated Assault. When it resolves it untaps all creatures and creates an additional combat phase after this main phase . With priority in that postcombat main phase you may activate Selvala’s {G},{T} ability (a mana ability that resolves immediately and can’t be responded to) to add X mana where X is the greatest power among creatures you control at that moment; use that mana as you like before the additional combat phase begins (Ruling [2016-08-23]). The untapped creatures can be declared as attackers in the extra combat phase because they are untapped and were controlled continuously since the turn began . If you plan to untap creatures that attacked earlier, note the official guidance to normally activate Aggravated Assault in your postcombat main phase so attackers are untapped for the extra combat phase (Ruling [2023-09-01]).
