Aggravated Assault
Cavern-Hoard Dragon
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Aggravated Assault + Cavern-Hoard Dragon

Overview
You can activate Aggravated Assault’s {3}{R}{R} ability only during a main phase as a sorcery . When it resolves it untaps all your creatures and creates an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase (the additional phases are inserted after the current main phase, per the card text). Because Cavern-Hoard Dragon has haste, it can be declared as an attacker in that additional combat even if it entered the battlefield this turn . If Cavern-Hoard Dragon deals combat damage to a player in that extra combat, its triggered ability will put a Treasure-creation triggered ability on the stack and, when that trigger resolves, you create one Treasure token for each artifact that player controls at that time. You may activate Aggravated Assault more than once in a turn if you can pay its cost each time (Ruling [2004-10-04]).
Step 1
Make sure it is a main phase and you have priority with the stack empty, because Aggravated Assault’s activated ability may be activated only as a sorcery .
Step 2
Activate Aggravated Assault’s ability by paying {3}{R}{R}. The ability resolves and untaps all creatures you control and creates an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase (the additional phases are inserted after this main phase). Ruling [2023-09-01] notes you’ll normally do this in your postcombat main phase.
Step 3
Proceed through phases until you reach the additional combat phase created by Aggravated Assault.
Step 4
In that additional combat’s Declare Attackers step, you may declare Cavern-Hoard Dragon as an attacker because it has haste (so it need not have been under your control since the turn began) . Declaring it as an attacker causes you to tap it as part of the declaration .
Step 5
If Cavern-Hoard Dragon deals combat damage to a player during that combat, its triggered ability triggers. Triggered abilities are put on the stack and will resolve in turn; when the treasure-creation trigger resolves you create a Treasure token for each artifact that player controls at that time (triggers are handled via the rules in regarding triggered abilities being put on the stack).
Step 6
You may activate Aggravated Assault additional times in the turn (paying its cost each time) to generate more extra combats, if you have enough mana (Ruling [2004-10-04]).
Resolution
Activate Aggravated Assault (only as a sorcery during a main phase ) in your postcombat main phase to untap Cavern-Hoard Dragon and get an additional combat phase. Because Cavern-Hoard Dragon has haste, you may declare it as an attacker in that additional combat ; when it deals combat damage to a player it triggers and, when that trigger resolves, you create a Treasure token for each artifact that player controls. You can pay Aggravated Assault multiple times to get multiple extra combats (Ruling [2004-10-04]).
