Old Gnawbone

Aggravated Assault + Old Gnawbone

Overview
If you control Aggravated Assault and Old Gnawbone, each time Old Gnawbone deals combat damage to a player in any combat (including additional combats created by Aggravated Assault), Old Gnawbone’s triggered ability will trigger and create that many Treasure tokens; Aggravated Assault untaps your creatures and creates an additional combat phase after the current main phase, letting creatures that have been under your control since the turn began attack again and letting damage from each extra combat cause Old Gnawbone to trigger .
Step 1
During your main phase (normally the postcombat main), activate Aggravated Assault by paying its cost; it resolves, untapping all creatures you control and creating an additional combat phase after this main phase (Ruling [2023-09-01]).
Step 2
Move to the additional combat phase created by Aggravated Assault and declare attackers. Because Aggravated Assault untapped your creatures, any creature that meets the normal attack requirements (untapped and either has haste or has been under your control since the turn began) may be declared as an attacker .
Step 3
During the combat damage step of that additional combat, assign and then deal combat damage as normal; if Old Gnawbone is attacking and is unblocked or otherwise deals combat damage to a player, its damage is dealt during the combat damage step .
Step 4
When Old Gnawbone’s combat damage to a player is dealt, its triggered ability triggers. That trigger goes on the stack and, when it resolves, it creates that many Treasure tokens equal to the amount of combat damage dealt by Old Gnawbone.
Step 5
If you activated Aggravated Assault more than once (Ruling [2004-10-04]), repeat the above for each additional combat phase created; Old Gnawbone’s ability will trigger separately for each combat in which it deals combat damage to a player.
Resolution
Each time Old Gnawbone deals combat damage to a player in any combat phase (including extra combat phases created by Aggravated Assault), its triggered ability triggers and will create that many Treasure tokens. Aggravated Assault’s activation untaps all your creatures and creates an additional combat phase after that main phase, so creatures you control that satisfy the requirements to attack (untapped and controlled since the turn began, or have haste) can attack again and cause Old Gnawbone to trigger for each combat in which it deals player combat damage . You may activate Aggravated Assault multiple times if you have the mana, producing multiple extra combat phases (Ruling [2004-10-04]); it’s normal to activate it in a postcombat main so you can untap attackers from a prior combat (Ruling [2023-09-01]).
