Aggravated Assault
Sword of Feast and Famine
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Aggravated Assault + Sword of Feast and Famine

Overview
When your equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, Sword of Feast and Famine’s triggered ability triggers and (among other things) untaps all lands you control, and that trigger resolves during the combat sequence after damage is dealt . After combat, during your postcombat main phase you may activate Aggravated Assault’s activated ability (it can be activated only as a sorcery during a main phase) because the stack will be empty and you have priority . Aggravated Assault’s ability untaps all creatures you control and creates an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase, allowing the previously attacking creature to attack again in that extra combat . Repeating this — dealing combat damage, Sword untapping lands, activating Aggravated Assault in the following main phase, getting another combat — is possible as long as you can pay Aggravated Assault’s activation cost each time [Ruling 2004-10-04].
Step 1
Begin your turn and proceed to your precombat main phase and then to combat; declare attackers and have the equipped creature attack a player .
Step 2
During the combat damage step, if the equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, Sword of Feast and Famine’s triggered ability triggers. That trigger is put on the stack after combat damage is dealt .
Step 3
When Sword’s triggered ability resolves it causes the damaged player to discard a card (if possible) and you untap all lands you control; the untap happens even if the discard can’t happen [Ruling 2020-08-07].
Step 4
Combat finishes and you move to your postcombat main phase. With lands untapped by the Sword, you may activate Aggravated Assault’s activated ability (it can only be activated as a sorcery during a main phase) and pay its cost .
Step 5
When Aggravated Assault’s ability resolves it untaps all creatures you control (including the equipped creature) and creates an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase; because your creatures are untapped they can be declared as attackers in that extra combat .
Step 6
Repeat: in that additional combat the equipped creature can deal combat damage again, the Sword will trigger again to untap your lands, and in the following additional main phase you can activate Aggravated Assault again if you can pay its cost [Ruling 2004-10-04].
Resolution
If your equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, Sword of Feast and Famine’s triggered ability will trigger and (when it resolves) untap all lands you control; that untap happens even if the opponent can’t discard a card [Ruling 2020-08-07]. You may then activate Aggravated Assault during your postcombat main phase (it’s an activated ability you may only activate as a sorcery) using the lands untapped by Sword to pay its cost . Aggravated Assault untaps your creatures and creates an extra combat phase after that main phase, letting the equipped creature attack again; each time the equipped creature deals damage the Sword will again untap your lands, enabling you to pay Aggravated Assault again and continue the loop so long as you can pay its cost [Ruling 2004-10-04].
