AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Ashnod's Altar + Camellia, the Seedmiser + Ygra, Eater of All

Overview
If you control Ashnod's Altar, Camellia, the Seedmiser, and Ygra, Eater of All, then sacrificing a creature to Ashnod's Altar will produce {C}{C} and, provided Ygra's static ability currently makes that creature a Food, that sacrifice is also a sacrifice of a Food — so Camellia’s “Whenever you sacrifice one or more Foods” will trigger and Ygra’s “Whenever a Food is put into a graveyard from the battlefield” will trigger to put two +1/+1 counters on Ygra. Sacrificing is moving a permanent from the battlefield to its owner’s graveyard (a sacrifice) . You can’t make one Food serve as the sacrifice for multiple costs or to pay multiple costs simultaneously (Ruling [2024-11-08]). A creature made a Food by Ygra remains a creature as well (Ruling [2024-07-26]).
Step 1
You activate Ashnod’s Altar’s ability. As part of paying the cost you sacrifice a creature you control; sacrificing moves that permanent from the battlefield to its owner’s graveyard .
Step 2
At the exact moment you sacrifice the creature, check whether Ygra’s static effect was making that creature a Food. If Ygra was on the battlefield and its static ability applied, that creature is a Food in addition to being a creature (Ruling [2024-07-26]).
Step 3
Because the creature was a Food when it was sacrificed, Camellia’s triggered ability (“Whenever you sacrifice one or more Foods…”) triggers and is put on the stack.
Step 4
Also because a Food was put into a graveyard from the battlefield, Ygra’s triggered ability (“Whenever a Food is put into a graveyard from the battlefield…”) triggers and is put on the stack.
Step 5
Ashnod’s Altar’s activated ability (which is now on the stack after costs were paid) resolves and adds {C}{C} to your mana pool.
Step 6
Later, the triggered abilities resolve as they are on the stack: Camellia’s ability creates a 1/1 green Squirrel token, and Ygra’s ability puts two +1/+1 counters on Ygra for the Food that went to the graveyard.
Resolution
When you activate Ashnod’s Altar’s ability and sacrifice a creature you control, you pay the cost by sacrificing that creature (sacrifice = move the permanent from the battlefield to the graveyard) . If Ygra, Eater of All is making that creature a Food at the moment of the sacrifice, Camellia, the Seedmiser’s triggered ability (“Whenever you sacrifice one or more Foods…”) triggers and Ygra’s triggered ability (“Whenever a Food is put into a graveyard from the battlefield…”) also triggers, putting two +1/+1 counters on Ygra when its trigger resolves. Ashnod’s Altar’s activated ability then resolves and adds {C}{C}. You cannot use the same Food to pay multiple costs (for example, you can’t sacrifice the same Food both to pay a Ward cost and also to pay another cost) (Ruling [2024-11-08]). Creatures that Ygra makes into Foods remain creatures as well (Ruling [2024-07-26]).
