Carrion Feeder
Gravecrawler
Rooftop Storm
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Carrion Feeder + Gravecrawler + Rooftop Storm

Overview
With Carrion Feeder (a Zombie) on the battlefield and Rooftop Storm active, you may cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard for {0} and then sacrifice it to Carrion Feeder to put a +1/+1 counter on Carrion Feeder. Because Gravecrawler’s permission to be cast from the graveyard requires you to control a Zombie when you cast it, but that permission is only checked at cast time (so once it’s on the stack losing the Zombie afterward doesn’t undo the cast) (Ruling [2011-01-22]). The Gravecrawler goes to the graveyard when sacrificed (see ), letting you repeat the process as long as you can legally cast spells and still control a Zombie when you begin each cast.
Step 1
Have Carrion Feeder on the battlefield (it’s a Zombie) and Gravecrawler in your graveyard, and have Rooftop Storm active.
Step 2
Cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard. Gravecrawler’s text gives you permission to cast it from the graveyard as long as you control a Zombie; Rooftop Storm lets you pay {0} rather than pay its mana cost when you cast it.
Step 3
Let Gravecrawler resolve and enter the battlefield. (If Carrion Feeder is removed after you begin casting but before Gravecrawler resolves, that does not counter the spell once it’s on the stack — Ruling [2011-01-22].)
Step 4
Activate Carrion Feeder’s ability and sacrifice Gravecrawler as the sacrifice cost. Gravecrawler is put into your graveyard as a result (), and Carrion Feeder gets a +1/+1 counter.
Step 5
With Gravecrawler back in the graveyard and Carrion Feeder still a Zombie, you may repeat: cast Gravecrawler for {0} (Rooftop Storm), let it enter, and sacrifice it to pump Carrion Feeder.
Resolution
If you control Carrion Feeder and Rooftop Storm and Gravecrawler is in your graveyard, you can repeatedly: cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard for {0} (Rooftop Storm replacing the mana payment), let it resolve and enter the battlefield, activate Carrion Feeder’s ability sacrificing Gravecrawler to put a +1/+1 counter on Carrion Feeder, returning Gravecrawler to the graveyard () and then cast it again — continuing as long as you can legally cast spells and you control a Zombie at the time you begin each cast. Note that once you have cast Gravecrawler and it’s on the stack, losing the Zombie you relied on to cast it does not counter the spell (Ruling [2011-01-22]). Also, any mandatory additional costs would still have to be paid when applicable (Ruling [2011-09-22]), though Gravecrawler has none.
