Blood Artist
Forsaken Miner
Warren Soultrader
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Blood Artist + Forsaken Miner + Warren Soultrader

Overview
If you activate Warren Soultrader’s ability (pay 1 life, sacrifice another creature), the sacrifice is paid as part of the activation cost, so the sacrificed creature(s) die while the ability is being activated (costs are paid) . Any creature that dies this way will cause Blood Artist’s triggered ability(s) to trigger for each creature that died simultaneously [Ruling 2016-06-08]. Forsaken Miner’s return ability only triggers when you “commit a crime” (casting a spell, activating an ability, or putting a triggered ability on the stack that has one or more targets constituting a crime) and only if Forsaken Miner is in your graveyard at that moment; simply activating Warren Soultrader (which doesn’t target opponents, their permanents, or their graveyards) is not a crime, so Forsaken Miner won’t trigger from a normal Soultrader activation [Ruling 2024-04-12] .
Step 1
You announce activation of Warren Soultrader’s ability and put that activated ability on the stack following the process in .
Step 2
As part of paying the activation costs you pay 1 life (subtracted from your life total per ) and sacrifice another creature; sacrificing the creature puts it into its owner’s graveyard immediately as a result of paying a cost .
Step 3
The creature’s death is an event that causes Blood Artist’s triggered ability to trigger; if multiple creatures die simultaneously, Blood Artist triggers once for each such creature [Ruling 2016-06-08].
Step 4
Those Blood Artist triggered abilities are created and placed on the stack after state-based actions are performed and before the Soultrader activated ability resolves (normal triggered-ability timing per ).
Step 5
When each Blood Artist trigger resolves it causes the chosen target player to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life (each trigger is a separate event).
Step 6
Later, Warren Soultrader’s activated ability resolves and creates a Treasure token (the effect of the activated ability).
Step 7
Forsaken Miner’s ability only triggers if the action that constituted the activation was a crime while Forsaken Miner was in your graveyard (see [Ruling 2024-04-12]); a normal Soultrader activation that does not target an opponent or their objects is not a crime, so Miner does not trigger in that case.
Resolution
Activating Warren Soultrader: you pay the activation costs (including paying 1 life and sacrificing another creature) as part of the activation process, so the sacrificed creature(s) go to the graveyard before the activated ability resolves . Each creature that dies that way causes Blood Artist to trigger once (multiple simultaneous deaths cause multiple Blood Artist triggers) [Ruling 2016-06-08]. Forsaken Miner in the graveyard will not trigger from a plain Soultrader activation because that activation is not a crime (it doesn’t target an opponent, something they control, or a card in their graveyard); Forsaken Miner only triggers when you commit a crime while it is in your graveyard, per the official ruling [Ruling 2024-04-12].
