Moldervine Reclamation
Warren Soultrader
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Chatterfang, Squirrel General + Moldervine Reclamation + Warren Soultrader

Overview
When you activate Warren Soultrader’s ability (pay 1 life, sacrifice another creature), the sacrifice happens while paying costs; that creature’s death triggers Moldervine Reclamation immediately and that triggered ability will be put on the stack and resolve before Warren’s activated ability creates a Treasure token, because of the sequence of paying costs, state-based actions, and placing triggered abilities on the stack . When Warren’s ability later resolves and would create a Treasure token under your control, Chatterfang’s replacement effect replaces that token’s creation by creating the Treasure token plus a 1/1 green Squirrel token (Chatterfang applies to Treasure tokens and to any tokens created under your control) (Ruling [2021-06-18]; Ruling [2025-01-24]). If paying the 1 life as part of the cost causes you to have 0 or less life, you lose the game before Moldervine can save you (you lose due to state-based actions) (Ruling [2019-07-12]).
Step 1
You announce and activate Warren Soultrader’s activated ability and begin paying its costs (including paying 1 life and sacrificing another creature).
Step 2
As part of paying costs, you sacrifice the other creature; that creature is put into its owner’s graveyard, which is a ‘dies’ event for Moldervine Reclamation (a triggered ability is generated) .
Step 3
After activation finishes and the ability is on the stack, the game checks state-based actions and then places triggered abilities that resulted from the sacrifice (Moldervine’s trigger) onto the stack .
Step 4
Moldervine Reclamation’s triggered ability will resolve before Warren Soultrader’s ability resolves (LIFO stack order); when it resolves you gain 1 life and draw a card.
Step 5
Later, when Warren Soultrader’s ability resolves it would create a Treasure token under your control; Chatterfang’s replacement effect replaces the creation of that token so that the Treasure token and a 1/1 green Squirrel creature token are created instead (Ruling [2021-06-18]; Ruling [2025-01-24]).
Step 6
Result: you end up with the Treasure token and an additional 1/1 Squirrel token; Moldervine has already granted you 1 life and a card from the sacrifice-triggered resolution.
Resolution
Sequence and result: Activate Warren Soultrader’s ability and pay its costs (including paying 1 life and sacrificing another creature). The sacrificed creature dies and Moldervine Reclamation’s triggered ability is generated and put on the stack before Warren’s ability resolves . Moldervine will resolve first (you gain 1 life and draw a card). When Warren’s ability then resolves it creates a Treasure token; Chatterfang’s replacement effect replaces that token creation by creating the Treasure token plus a 1/1 green Squirrel token instead (so you end up with the Treasure and a Squirrel) (Ruling [2021-06-18]; Ruling [2025-01-24]). If paying the 1 life as part of Warren’s cost causes your life total to become 0 or less, you lose the game immediately before Moldervine’s trigger can resolve (Ruling [2019-07-12]).
