Overview

If you use Warren Soultrader’s activated ability to sacrifice a creature (including Gravecrawler), that creature is put into its owner’s graveyard , which causes Blood Artist’s triggered ability to trigger. You may cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard as long as you control a Zombie when you start casting it; once it’s on the stack it doesn’t matter if you lose control of that Zombie [Ruling 2011-01-22]. If multiple creatures die simultaneously, Blood Artist will trigger for each one that died [Ruling 2016-06-08]. State-based actions and triggered-ability placement are handled as usual .

Step 1

Activate Warren Soultrader’s ability: announce the activation, pay the 1 life cost, and sacrifice another creature as part of paying the activation costs; that sacrificed creature is put into its owner’s graveyard .

Step 2

Because a creature was put into the graveyard, Blood Artist’s triggered ability triggers; that triggered ability will be placed on the stack along with any other triggered abilities waiting to be put on the stack after state-based actions are checked .

Step 3

If the creature you sacrificed was Gravecrawler and Gravecrawler is now in your graveyard, you may cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard provided you control a Zombie at the time you start casting it (the permission to cast from graveyard is checked when you cast) [Ruling 2011-01-22].

Step 4

If you cast Gravecrawler in response to Warren’s activation (or in response to Blood Artist’s trigger), it becomes a spell on the stack; per the Gravecrawler permission, once it’s on the stack it doesn’t matter if you later lose control of the Zombie that allowed you to cast it [Ruling 2011-01-22].

Step 5

When the triggered Blood Artist ability resolves it will cause the chosen target player to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life for that one trigger; if multiple creatures died simultaneously there will be one Blood Artist trigger per creature that died [Ruling 2016-06-08].

Step 6

When Warren’s activated ability resolves it creates a Treasure token; remember that the order in which those abilities resolve depends on how players placed responses on the stack.

Resolution

Activating Warren Soultrader requires paying costs (including sacrificing another creature). The sacrificed creature is put into its owner’s graveyard ; that event causes Blood Artist’s “Whenever this creature or another creature dies” ability to trigger. You can cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard as long as you control a Zombie at the time you start casting it (the permission to cast is checked when you cast it) [Ruling 2011-01-22]. If multiple creatures die at the same time, Blood Artist gets a separate trigger for each of them [Ruling 2016-06-08].
