Overview

With Crucible of Worlds you may play Glacial Chasm from your graveyard as a land (Crucible Oracle text) during a main phase when the stack is empty because playing a land is a special action and putting a land onto the battlefield from another zone as a result of playing it is governed by the land rules . Dryad of the Ilysian Grove gives you an additional land play each turn and makes your lands every basic land type and grant them the basic lands' mana abilities [305.6; Ruling [2020-01-24]]. When Glacial Chasm enters the battlefield its triggered ability “When this land enters, sacrifice a land.” triggers; when that trigger resolves you must sacrifice a land you control, and if you controlled no other lands you must sacrifice Glacial Chasm itself [Ruling [2008-08-01]]. Crucible doesn’t let you activate land abilities from the graveyard, it only permits you to play lands from the graveyard (Crucible Oracle text; Ruling [2018-07-13]).

Step 1

Ensure it is your main phase and you have priority and the stack is empty; playing a land is a special action allowed only in those circumstances .

Step 2

Because Dryad of the Ilysian Grove gives you an additional land play this turn, you may play one more land than usual this turn (Dryad Oracle text; see ).

Step 3

Use Crucible of Worlds’ effect (Crucible Oracle text) to play Glacial Chasm from your graveyard; Crucible permits you to play lands from your graveyard rather than activating abilities in the graveyard (Ruling [2018-07-13]).

Step 4

Put Glacial Chasm onto the battlefield; ‘‘When this land enters, sacrifice a land.’’ triggers when it enters the battlefield (the land has entered, so the triggered ability will be created and put on the stack per normal triggered-ability handling) and will be put on the stack after state-based actions are checked .

Step 5

When that trigger resolves you must sacrifice a land you control. You may choose any land you control as the sacrificed land; Dryad’s effect means your lands have all basic land types but that only affects types and intrinsic mana abilities, not what counts as a land to be sacrificed [305.6; Ruling [2020-01-24]].

Step 6

If you controlled no other lands when Glacial Chasm entered, the triggered ability will cause you to sacrifice Glacial Chasm itself when it resolves (Ruling [2008-08-01]).

Resolution

You can play Glacial Chasm from your graveyard using Crucible of Worlds if you have a land play available this turn (Dryad can provide an extra land play) . When Glacial Chasm enters the battlefield its triggered ability “When this land enters, sacrifice a land.” will trigger; when that trigger resolves you must sacrifice a land you control (any land you control is a legal choice, including nonbasic lands that have basic types because of Dryad) [Ruling [2008-08-01]]. If you controlled no other lands when it entered, the trigger will cause you to sacrifice Glacial Chasm itself [Ruling [2008-08-01]]. Crucible does not allow you to use any activated abilities of lands while they are in the graveyard — it only allows you to play lands from the graveyard [Ruling [2018-07-13]].
