Crucible of Worlds

The Gitrog Monster
AI DraftFeb 26, 2026

Crucible of Worlds + Glacial Chasm + The Gitrog Monster

Overview
Crucible of Worlds lets you play lands from your graveyard; The Gitrog Monster gives you an extra land play each turn and draws you a card whenever one or more land cards are put into your graveyard from anywhere (triggers once for multiple lands) [Ruling 2025-01-24]. Glacial Chasm’s “When this land enters, sacrifice a land” trigger can be responded to by playing a land from your graveyard with Crucible (if timing and your remaining land plays allow), preventing the special-case sacrifice of Glacial Chasm if you would otherwise control no lands [Ruling 2008-08-01]. Crucible does not let you activate land abilities while the land is in the graveyard (only lets you play the land) [Ruling 2018-07-13].
Step 1
You cast Glacial Chasm (or it otherwise enters the battlefield). Its triggered ability 'When this land enters, sacrifice a land' triggers and is put on the stack; after the land has entered and its triggered ability is on the stack you get priority.
Step 2
While that triggered ability is on the stack (and assuming it is an appropriate time to play a land and you have a land play available — The Gitrog Monster gives an additional land play this turn), you may play a land card from your graveyard using Crucible of Worlds [Ruling 2018-07-13] and the fact that lands are played only as lands .
Step 3
If you play a land from your graveyard in response, that land enters the battlefield before the 'sacrifice a land' trigger resolves and can be chosen as the land to sacrifice when the trigger resolves.
Step 4
When you sacrifice that land, it is put into your graveyard; The Gitrog Monster’s ability 'Whenever one or more land cards are put into your graveyard from anywhere, draw a card' triggers for that event (if multiple lands were put in at once it triggers only once) [Ruling 2025-01-24].
Step 5
If you did not (or could not) play a land before the 'enters' trigger resolved and you control no other lands, Glacial Chasm’s enters trigger will force you to sacrifice Glacial Chasm itself when it resolves [Ruling 2008-08-01].
Resolution
You may play a land card from your graveyard using Crucible of Worlds and (if necessary) The Gitrog Monster’s extra land play to have a land available to sacrifice for Glacial Chasm’s enters trigger or for The Gitrog Monster’s upkeep-triggered sacrifice. If you do sacrifice such a land, that land being put into your graveyard will cause The Gitrog Monster’s draw trigger to trigger (and if multiple lands were put into your graveyard at once that trigger happens only once) [Ruling 2025-01-24]. If Glacial Chasm’s enters trigger resolves and you control no other lands and you were unable to (or chose not to) play a land before it resolved, Glacial Chasm itself must be sacrificed [Ruling 2008-08-01]. Crucible does not allow activation of abilities of land cards while they are in the graveyard; you can only play them as lands from the graveyard [Ruling 2018-07-13] and lands are played only as lands .
