Overview

When you activate Warren Soultrader’s activated ability (pay 1 life, sacrifice another creature) the sacrificed creature is put into your graveyard (it "dies"), which triggers Bastion of Remembrance’s triggered ability . That triggered ability will be placed on the stack after the activated ability is put on the stack and will resolve before the activated ability resolves (see state-based/trigger handling) . When the Warren ability resolves it would create a Treasure token; Chatterfang’s replacement effect replaces that token creation with that token plus a 1/1 Squirrel token (Treasure + one squirrel) because Chatterfang applies to tokens being created under your control and Ruling (2021-06-18) and Ruling (2025-01-24).

Step 1

Activate Warren Soultrader’s ability: pay 1 life and sacrifice another creature as an additional cost; sacrificing the creature puts it into your graveyard (it "dies") .

Step 2

After costs are paid, the Warren activated ability is put on the stack, then the game checks state-based actions and places any triggered abilities on the stack; Bastion of Remembrance’s triggered ability is placed on the stack (it triggered when the creature died) .

Step 3

When Bastion’s trigger resolves, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life (the effect of Bastion).

Step 4

After Bastion’s trigger has resolved, the Warren Soultrader activated ability will resolve and create a Treasure token.

Step 5

Chatterfang’s replacement effect applies to the token creation event and replaces the single Treasure token being created with that Treasure token plus a 1/1 green Squirrel token entering under your control (see Ruling (2021-06-18) and Ruling (2025-01-24)).

Step 6

Both the Treasure token and the Squirrel token enter the battlefield simultaneously as the result of Warren’s ability resolving; that token creation is a single event modified by Chatterfang’s replacement effect.

Resolution

Normal outcome (you control Bastion of Remembrance, Chatterfang, and Warren Soultrader and you survive paying 1 life): you sacrifice a creature as part of Warren’s activation; Bastion of Remembrance triggers from that creature dying and is put on the stack; Bastion’s trigger resolves (each opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life) ; then Warren’s ability resolves and would create a Treasure token, but Chatterfang’s replacement effect modifies that creation so you get the Treasure token plus a 1/1 green Squirrel token at the same time the Treasure enters the battlefield (see Ruling (2021-06-18) and Ruling (2025-01-24)). If paying the 1 life as part of the activation causes you to have 0 or less life, you lose before the ability resolves [Ruling (2020-04-17)].
