Conduit of Worlds + Exploration + Glacial Chasm

Overview

Conduit of Worlds lets you play lands from your graveyard, and Exploration increases the number of lands you may play each turn, while Glacial Chasm has an enters-the-battlefield triggered ability that instructs you to “sacrifice a land.” Playing a land is a special action that doesn’t use the stack and is limited by the number of lands you may play this turn ; Exploration increases that number and is cumulative with similar effects [Ruling 2022-12-08]. Step 1

Make sure Conduit of Worlds and Exploration are on the battlefield and that the stack is empty during your main phase so you may take special actions to play lands .

Step 2

Determine how many lands you may play this turn. Normally 1; Exploration adds 1 (and is cumulative with other similar effects) so you can play 2 lands this turn [Ruling 2022-12-08].

Step 3

Use Conduit of Worlds’ effect that lets you play lands from your graveyard to play Glacial Chasm from your graveyard. Playing it is a special action and is not casting a spell .

Step 4

As soon as Glacial Chasm is put onto the battlefield, its triggered ability "When this land enters, sacrifice a land" triggers (the land is already on the battlefield when the trigger is created) and that trigger goes on the stack; note you could not respond to the act of putting the land onto the battlefield, only to the trigger once it’s on the stack .

Step 5

When the triggered ability resolves you must sacrifice a land. Choose and sacrifice another land you control if you want to keep Glacial Chasm. If you control no other lands at that time, you must sacrifice Glacial Chasm itself [Ruling 2008-08-01].

Step 6

If you have another land in your graveyard and you haven’t yet used both land plays granted this turn (counting the Glacial Chasm play), you may play that other land from your graveyard using Conduit’s ability because Exploration increased your land plays allowed this turn [Ruling 2022-12-08].

Resolution

If you control Conduit of Worlds and Exploration, you may use Conduit to play lands from your graveyard and Exploration to allow an additional land play that turn (so you can play two lands that turn) [Ruling 2022-12-08]. Playing Glacial Chasm from your graveyard is a land play (a special action), not casting a spell . When Glacial Chasm enters, its triggered ability will cause you to sacrifice a land; you may sacrifice a different land you control to keep Glacial Chasm, or if you control no other lands you must sacrifice Glacial Chasm itself [Ruling 2008-08-01].
